A somewhat bizarre unofficial contest has been taking place along the Silk Road in terms of who possesses the tallest flagpole. Azerbaijan held the record from 2010 until Tajikistan took the honour a year later. Since 2014, Saudi Arabia has held the record with a flagpole measuring 170m.
The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi has announced that Iran and Qatar plan to launch regular shipping lines between the two countries’ ports. The statement came after meetings with Qatari trade and transport officials concerning the development of transport, commercial and economic ties between the two countries.
