The Belt & Road Initiative vs. Rest of World, World Cup Soccer Finals

Friday, November 25

By Chris Devonshire-Ellis

It’s gone under the radar, but the number of countries that are members of the Belt & Road Initiative playing at the FIFA 2022 World Cup Finals is nearly the same as those who are not.

Game On Then!

The Belt and Road Initiative Teams: 16

Argentina, Brazil*, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, Iran, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, South Korea, Switzerland, Tunisia, Qatar, and Uruguay

*Brazil is not a member of the BRI – yet – but it is the largest recipient of Chinese FDI and infrastructure in Latin America. We include Brazil here to round up the numbers – consider it a transfer.

The Rest of World Teams: 16

Australia, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, United States and Wales.

During the World Cup Finals, we will be tallying up the results of all BRI and ROW matches to arrive at an eventual winner. Beers are available at the Silk Road Briefing Stadium.

The Emerging World versus the Old World Order!!!

How it works is that we will include all results, three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss, plus all goals scored. If two teams from the same BRI or ROW play together, the result and points and goals will all be credited accordingly.

Results and Standings will be updated daily. Let The Games Begin!
