Turkmenistan, Bahrain Sign INSTC Rail Connectivity Agreements
Turkmenistan and Bahrain have signed an MoU and several other agreements related to rail connectivity and other economic and trade development initiatives. The move is significant as Turkmenistan is part of the INSTC Caspian Sea – Central Asian route, while Bahrain is sited west of Qatar and offers access to the Middle East. Routes between the two countries would transit Iran.
Both Turkmen Demiryollary (Turkmenistan Railway) and Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications signed agreements to develop the rail connectivity area. Other topical areas of cooperation between the two countries in bilateral economics, including the financial and banking sector, as well as building up bilateral partnerships in communication, transport and logistics, cultural and humanitarian spheres were also discussed.
The documents were signed following negotiations between King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his official visit to the capital of Bahrain, Manama. MoU were also signed in general, technical, and higher education agreements.
